When you named your post David and Katchoo: Rampant Bitchery Ahoy, it seemed pretty clear to me that you were calling Katchoo bitchy. I truly am sorry if I misinterpreted.

As for taking this personally, that?s an interesting thing to say. I mean, we are here to discuss this comic book. On a regular basis, people post lengthy, thoughtful, and often emotional interpretations of the last issue and the characters. That?s what we do, and generally nobody says someone is taking something overly personal. It?s like going to a Star Trek convention in full Klingon gear, and then calling everyone else there a geek; you may be right from a certain point of view, but you?re just as geeky as the rest (no offense to any resident Trekkies: I have the utmost respect for you because I will probably be working for you one day).

This issue bothers me because I don?t think many people are asking why Katchoo is acting this way. Similarly, no one asks why David puts up with it. And why don?t they talk to each other about it? I think these may be things that we are meant to consider at this time, as far as the future of the story is concerned.

Also, and I fully expect to get flamed for this, it?s kind of sexist to just pass Katchoo off as being a bitch (whether you directly called her that or not, that is the theme of the discussions lately) without asking why she is acting in a certain way.

    Flame away.

who gives the harder time right before he walks out the door? no, lemme further add to that, who jokingly threatened to take his legs off? tambi did. he didn't seem to mind doing a chore for kat, but then the situation with tambi came up. why people would even think that was directed at kat escapes me.

probably because katchoo's behavior fits the definition so well (not a complaint, just a statement of opinion smile ).

Regardless of David's and Francine's equally frustrating behaviors (For me, David's puppysheep lockstep behind Katchoo and Francine's vacilation between: accepting that her feelings have grown beyond the boundries she (and her upbringing) set and return katchoo's love in full; and confirming her heterosexuality but failing to make katchoo accept that boundry), Katchoo is still responsible for her mistreatment of all around her. She works overtime to be a self fulfilling prophecy (her living the next sixty years alone and bitter with that box containing Francine's last peanut).

I'm not pissed at any of them. Just watching the story develop and wondering how we're going to end up with Kat marrying David in the future, considering how they're acting now.

OK I think David's bitch comment was mostly directed at Tambi, definite possible past tension maybe we didn't see. He's met her before without much reaction but then she was saving his life at the time. Why not at Kat? Well he seems to get over the push away and end up quite friendly and jokey about it (Eggs you shall have my lady) why change to real bitchy about being sent for eggs in less than 5 mins.

Also flashback to issue #40 David is the most persistent sheep on earth so he keeps on trying. Kat though is back she's done alot of thinking now that the whole life threatening bits seem to be over for now, re-evaluated where she stands in life (so all those I think I love him bits for the past lose their weight) and is redefining her boundaries and David is finding himself on the other side of the fence.

So sometimes finding who you are results in stepping on peoples toes as you find them less beneficial to you than you once thought.

So advice to David - new strategy boy because the rules have changed, her life is finally starting to go right so she doesn't need you so much.

So was it sexism when everyone passed Freddie off as a(insert rude name of your choice)? If you met someone like Katchoo in the real world and didn't have the opportunity to see the other side of her that we the reader are gifted with seeing you would call her a bitch too. Sorry this isn't a flame, I am just tired of women being defended when they have the same characteristics that they condemn in men.

But see, we are the readers, and we do see what she's gone through.

Freddie is a jerk. And although he has been given his own issue, and we?ve seen the sympathetic side of him, he is still a jerk. He cheats, he?s shallow, he?s selfish, and he?s sneaky. I don?t feel sexist saying that, because he?s done everything he can to confirm it. He's paying for it now, which might be good for him, but it doesn't change what he's done.

If I just passed David off as an idiotic man, that would be sexist, I totally agree. But I don't feel that way about him. I think David needs to be his own man and learn to step away from Katchoo when it?s necessary. And I don?t think his weakness is an especially male quality, either.

Meanwhile, Katchoo has just been through an awful year. At the end of it all, she just barely saved her best friend and the love of her life from mutilation and/or murder. But then she finds out that Francine is engaged (this is news to Katchoo, remember? She never knew about this until after she rescued Francine). She freaks. She makes a big mistake? she sleeps with David. This is the ONLY thing that she did wrong, and it?s not the best thing she could have done. But bitchy? No. And she has not strung him along since. He?s living there because he wants to. He has wanted, as is David?s habit, to believe that ?as long as they are both drawing breath,? he has a chance. But she is clearly letting him know that she is not interested in his affections. Imagine that you can?t be with the love of your life, and like all humans, you want some company because you are depressed. So you?re with a very good friend, but he?s in love with you, and although you?ve made it clear that you?re not returning his affections, he goes on to no end about his undying affection, and that annoys you a little. However, you don?t tell him that annoys you just yet, maybe because you?re being polite, maybe because you?re not in the mood for a fight. That is not being bitchy. If you know this person?s background, and yet you call her a bitch because she was weak and had comfort sex one night, but won?t continue to put out because she admits her mistake, then yes, you are being a sexist.

I once had a friend who shared many of Katchoo's traits. She was charming, charismatic, troubled, etc.

After getting burned one too many times I decided that charming and charismatic wasn't enough...

But I still stand by my comment Katchoo is human and fallible. And since she hasn't burned me it is easier to feel empathy for her. In real life, chances are I would walk away though. She is too much like my ex-friend! wink

that's not how i take it, regardless.

reading all kinds of crap into that little situation, while ignoring everything else seems futile. let's not overanalize what happened, as there seems to be a large door (metiphorically) at the end of this issue that we and the charecters are going to go through in the next issue. when #43 comes out, like terry said, we'll know more of what's up. biggrin

on a side note, to quote terry "...you have no idea how important francine's daughter is to our story." .... what if francine's daughter was fathered by david? hehe. tongue cool

    <edited because i forgot how hostboard's smileys work, lol>
